She is our friendliest mama deer who comes into the yard and mooches for apples, modeling here while I ponder how many deer show up in fairy tales as the sacrificial lamb whose heart is cut out to hide the heroine’s escape. A real doe, and a metaphor. And a snail shell from my childhood days collecting them in the woods, avoiding other humans and dreaming of the days when I would be a grown up and everything would make sense 🙃
